Numbers, home base and house quirks
Bavaria goes ZRCE was not a conventional festival built around one arena and a weekend of scheduled performances. It operated as a full week of travel, accommodation and continuous partying across Zrće Beach, Novalja and the Adriatic waters surrounding the island of Pag. For many guests, the experience began on an overnight coach from Germany, where groups of friends started the holiday long before receiving their wristbands or seeing the sea.
The public event emerged in 2018 with a clear regional identity. Its original purpose was to bring Bavarian party travellers together in Croatia, offering transport, accommodation and festival access within a single package. The title did not imply a beach version of Oktoberfest. Instead, it described a Bavarian community taking over one of Europe’s best-known summer club destinations.
Zrće Beach functioned as a district rather than a single venue. Noa, Papaya, Aquarius and Kalypso each offered their own outdoor stage, bars, terraces, pools and VIP areas. Bavaria goes ZRCE distributed its programme across those clubs, allowing an afternoon pool party to lead into a night event somewhere else and, on particularly committed days, directly into sunrise.
Boat parties added another environment. Guests left from Novalja harbour, sailed across the Adriatic with DJs and drinks and returned to shore before the next club programme. The week also offered excursions, beach activities and opportunities to explore Pag, although rest could easily become the most difficult item to include in the schedule.
Musically, the festival was deliberately broad. Its early identity leaned towards international EDM, hardstyle and psytrance, with artists such as Lost Frequencies, W&W, Marshmello, Vini Vici, Headhunterz, Coone and Brennan Heart. Later editions brought German hip-hop, commercial dance, party pop and Mallorca-style performers into increasingly prominent positions.
That mixture distinguished the event from many specialist festivals at Zrće. A hardstyle session could be followed by German rap, a melodic EDM headline show or a crowd singing along to a deliberately uncomplicated party anthem. The programme was not trying to maintain underground purity. It was designed to support several different moods across a seven-day holiday.
Accommodation formed an essential part of the culture. Bavaria goes ZRCE was not organised around a traditional campsite. Guests stayed in apartments, hotels, villas and resort properties around Novalja. Balconies became meeting points before the clubs, kitchens were used for improvised meals and shuttle stops connected the residential areas with the beach.
The package model made the event accessible to travellers who did not want to organise every detail independently. Coach transport, rooms and festival passes could be booked together, while entrance-only, VIP and boat-party upgrades allowed guests to build a more flexible trip. This also meant that Bavaria goes ZRCE behaved partly like a tour operator and partly like a music festival.
The 2020 edition was cancelled during the pandemic. The gathering returned in 2021 and regained its full scale afterwards. By 2022, accommodation and festival packages were being listed as sold out, demonstrating how far the event had expanded beyond its initial regional audience.
The 2024 edition showed the mature form of the concept. Tream, Ski Aggu, Bausa, Yung Yury, HBz, VIZE, Brennan Heart, Ran-D, Harris & Ford, Money Boy, Mia Julia and Isi Glück represented a programme where electronic music and German party culture were equally important. International club sounds remained present, but the crowd could also hear songs directly connected with its own language and summer traditions.
By then, the title Bavaria goes ZRCE no longer accurately represented the audience. More than half of the participants were arriving from outside Bavaria. In 2025, the organisers renamed the project Germany Goes Zrce, preserving the same travel-festival structure while opening the identity to the entire country.
The successor event took place in August 2025 but its planned 2026 edition was cancelled after rising production costs, artist fees and market competition made the model financially difficult to continue. The organisers described the decision as a suspension rather than a permanent ending.
Bavaria goes ZRCE therefore belongs to the historical first chapter of the project. Its strongest memory is not a single headline performance. It is the repeated cycle of apartment, beach, pool, boat, club and sunrise, shared by a travelling community that temporarily turned a Croatian holiday destination into a German-speaking festival town.
