Noisy Naples Fest

Noisy Naples Fest was created to place Naples back on the route of major international tours. For much of its history, its image was inseparable from the curved seating of the Arena Flegrea, where audiences arrived at sunset, took their places beneath the open sky and waited for a leading figure from rock, pop, jazz or electronic music to enter one of southern Italy’s most distinctive modern amphitheatres. Noisy was not initially built as a self-contained weekend. It operated as a summer concert season spread across several dates.

The project began in 2016 from an idea developed by Mario Floro Flores alongside the artistic revival of the Arena Flegrea. It responded to a familiar frustration for audiences in southern Italy: important tours frequently stopped in Rome or the north without reaching Naples. Noisy sought to prove that the city could support an ambitious international programme inside a venue combining scale, architectural character and a direct connection with local cultural life.

Its early seasons established that possibility. Sting, Robert Plant, Massive Attack and Diana Krall helped define a programme that was never restricted to a single musical community. Noel Gallagher, Paul Kalkbrenner, Ludovico Einaudi, Black Coffee, OneRepublic, LP, Editors and Thirty Seconds to Mars followed in later years. One evening might belong to British rock and another to electronic music, jazz, Italian songwriting or contemporary pop. The continuity came from the scale and care of the live productions rather than a uniform sound.

For nearly a decade, the Arena Flegrea determined how Noisy was experienced. Its seating created the concentrated attention of a major standalone concert rather than the constant movement of a field festival. Visitors entered for a particular artist, faced a stage framed by the amphitheatre and left when that night’s performance ended. The model gave each show its own atmosphere, although the dates and their different audiences remained largely separate from one another.

In 2026, Noisy changes both scale and structure. Its central programme moves to the Viale delle 28 Fontane inside the wider Mostra d’Oltremare complex in Fuorigrotta. The location remains connected to the Arena Flegrea, but the experience becomes more open and flexible. For the first time, two consecutive days are offered through a combined pass, with several artists per evening, DJ sets, a market area and a continuous festival environment.

The new setting is shaped by the architecture and greenery of the Mostra d’Oltremare. Long avenues, modernist buildings, trees and the perspective of the fountains replace the enclosed focus of the amphitheatre. There is no campsite or isolated temporary city. Audiences arrive through Naples, spend the afternoon and night inside the grounds and return afterwards to neighbourhoods, hotels and streets that remain part of the wider experience.

Franz Ferdinand lead the programme on 23 July with the rhythmic guitar music and direct movement that helped define twenty-first-century indie rock. Skunk Anansie bring a heavier and more confrontational intensity, while Bluvertigo connect Italian alternative music with electronics, pop and experimentation. British producer and vocalist Grove pushes the evening towards contemporary club-informed sounds, and a Virgin Radio DJ set keeps the transitions active.

Kasabian headline 24 July with a mixture of indie rock, electronic pulse and large choruses. Subsonica represent one of Italy’s most enduring links between live bands and club culture, while Planet Funk combine electronic production, melody and international experience. Pellegrino & Zodyaco’s Dance Rituals brings the programme closer to Naples through Mediterranean rhythms, local musical memory and an approach designed for collective movement.

South Market adds independent design, clothing, crafts and urban culture to the main route through the site. After the final performances, separate aftershows continue at the Arena Flegrea. The historic venue therefore does not disappear from Noisy’s identity; it becomes the late-night continuation of a festival now occupying a broader part of the complex.

Noisy Naples Fest enters this new chapter without abandoning the reason it was founded. Its purpose remains to bring significant live music to Naples and to ensure that southern audiences are not treated as an afterthought on international schedules. What changes is the way those concerts meet one another. Along the avenues of the Mostra d’Oltremare, international rock, Italian electronic music and Neapolitan nightlife now form a single shared experience rather than a sequence of separate summer evenings.
