About the festival

Smoke & Uncut is a pop, rock, and rhythm and blues festival in the gardens of the Lime Wood hotel, on Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst, in the New Forest. At the hotel the name is written Smoked & Uncut. Lime Wood and the THE PIG hotel group put it on. It started in 2013, in the fields at Lime Wood, with a man and a guitar. At the start about a hundred people fitted. In 2023, at the ten-year mark, they were counting thousands. The same name has separate dates at other houses in the group. This one is Lyndhurst. The hotel postcode is SO43 7FZ.

In 2015 the Lime Wood bill listed John Bramwell, of I Am Kloot, and the Winchester group Polly & The Billet Doux. Bramwell had formed I Am Kloot in 1999. The 2010 album Sky at Night was nominated for the Mercury. The 2013 album entered the UK album top 10. That summer each date under the name was capped at 600 tickets, at 30 pounds. The drink came from local breweries, from Chase Distillery, and from Nyetimber fizz. On 21 August 2016 the day started at 12:00. The bill listed Noisettes, Alex Vargas, Seafret, No Sugar, and VeryLove. The food was the house's, in season, and the hotel restaurant could be booked as well.

In 2017 The Kooks sold out Lime Wood. On Saturday 14 July 2018 the day ran from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The ticket was 37 pounds and it sold out. Razorlight played at 7:00 p.m. Also on the day were Rae Morris, Marsicans, Patawawa, Hush Moss, and Ben Goddard, a local singer. Rob Da Bank, from the Isle of Wight, DJ'd. There was sun. Pizza and a burger were paid with a 5-pound token. On the way in they gave a token for a reusable cup: it covered the first drink, and a lost cup had to be bought again. The cups were washed for the next date. That night the music ran later than on the earlier ones, with resident DJ Harriet Rose.

On Saturday 27 July 2019 the bill listed Sister Sledge and The Wailers. Sister Sledge formed in Philadelphia in 1971, with the sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim, and Kathy Sledge. The album We Are Family is from 1979. Nick Grimshaw, of Radio 1, was added as DJ. There was a glamping village for the night. Tickets started from 39 pounds. Angela Hartnett, the hotel chef, cooked an Italian banquet. The same summer the name had two other dates, in Brockenhurst and near Bath. Those are not this one.

Saturday 8 July 2023 was the ten-year party, again at Lime Wood. Rain came in bursts. They handed out ponchos. People danced on hay bales and sat in deck chairs. Gabrielle opened the night: Dreams, Out of Reach, and Don't Need the Sun to Shine. Kelis closed, known for Milkshake and for work with Busta Rhymes, Calvin Harris, and Björk. On the main stage, the INEOS Grenadier, Judi James, All Day Breakfast Café, Ayda Rose, Gina Larner, and Picture House were on too. In a smaller tent, Harriet Rose played house. Several thousand came through. The food bill announced Nathan Outlaw alongside Angela Hartnett. Outlaw has two Michelin stars in Port Isaac, at Outlaw's New Road and Outlaw's Fish Kitchen. On the day that happened, Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder built the banquet, and the apprentices sent out garden plates. Outside there were kebabs, stone-baked pizza, burgers, and paella. Children had a crafts and storytelling zone. The bazaar sold jewellery, clothes, and things for the house. An adult ticket started from 67.50 pounds. A child's, aged 5 to 15, from 30. The seated banquet, from 125.

The 2023 glamping, a bell tent with a bed for two, opened on Friday 7 July at 4:00 p.m. and sold out. There was a three-course supper by the fire, breakfast on Saturday, yoga, a bar of their own, and a pamper tent. The big Saturday started at 11:30 a.m. On the bars that summer were Shepherd Neame, Fever-Tree, Hambledon, and Belu water, with WaterAid. In 2026 the same name was used for garden parties at the THE PIG houses, with local music and without a big-name stage. The Saturday of those parties was 35 pounds for an adult and 17.50 for a child.
