That inaugural date did not aim to compete in scale with the Valley of Mexico's largest forums, but to show Morelos could sustain a gathering with identity, local audience and ambition to grow without losing its independent tone.

The venue leap came with the 2017 edition, when Vaivén moved to Jardines de México in Jojutla municipality. The shift was not mere logistics: it meant integrating concerts, camping and crowd circulation inside a botanical park of continental dimensions, recognised as the planet's most extensive floral garden. That choice defined the festival aesthetic — colour, scent, green horizons — and forced a rethink of flows, timetables and rest zones on terrain where curated nature coexists with temporary stage and service infrastructure.

Sidetrack remains promoter and editorial soul of the project; for large-scale operations it formed a partnership with OCESA, the Mexican company with a long track record in mass concert production. The alliance professionalised access, security, sound and build without dissolving the alternative vision that gave birth to the festival. OCESA brings commercial circuit know-how; Sidetrack keeps curatorial line and ties to emerging artists and established bands from the Latin American independent circuit. That dual structure explains how Vaivén can host substantial crowds while keeping a spirit of discovery rather than corporate playlist.

Musical programming articulates four families that cross without rigid hierarchy: national and international indie, electro pop with club sensibility and melody, alternative rock with guitars and energetic live presence, and funk adding groove and festive stage character. Morelos, with steadier temperature than Mexico City altitude, favours that open-air coexistence.

Geography reinforces the festival argument. Jojutla and the state's southern corridor sit at reasonable distance from the capital — reachable by road for Valley visitors — yet far enough to feel escape rather than suburban extension. Morelos brings cultural tradition, local markets and an identity Sidetrack linked to the name Vaivén: movement, rhythmic sway, oscillation between intimate and collective.
