Dreamstate Europe

Dreamstate Europe turned an arena in Gliwice into one of continental Europe’s most recognisable trance destinations. It never required camping, several festival days or stages scattered across a huge outdoor site. The formula was concentrated: one exceptionally long indoor event, monumental audiovisual production and a programme capable of moving through several generations of trance. Uplifting, progressive, psytrance, tech trance and classics could all appear across the same night while lasers and arena-scale lighting translated Insomniac’s Dreamstate aesthetic into a Polish setting. For many attendees, travelling to Silesia became part of the ritual, as important as staying until the final set in the early morning.

The April 27, 2019 debut immediately established international ambition. Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten presenting Gouryella, Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Gareth Emery, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Vini Vici, Liquid Soul, Simon Patterson and Menno de Jong covered an extraordinary amount of modern trance history. The event lasted more than fifteen hours and drew ticket buyers from dozens of countries. Rather than structuring the night around one superstar, Dreamstate Europe treated the whole running order as a journey: melodic material, progressive build-up, increasingly forceful tech trance and psychedelic sounds could gradually push the room forward until morning.

A second edition was planned for April 2020, but the pandemic turned that event into a two-year sequence of postponements. It was first moved into 2021 and then delayed again as uncertainty around indoor restrictions continued. Dreamstate Europe finally returned on April 23, 2022. Aly & Fila, Blastoyz, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Key4050, Kai Tracid, Markus Schulz, Menno de Jong, Nifra, Paul van Dyk, Simon O'Shine and Will Atkinson made the comeback feel less like a routine second year than the reopening of a community that had been forced apart. Anjunabeats Europe took place in the same arena the previous evening, creating a broader trance weekend while remaining a separate event.

From 2022 onward, the series briefly found an annual rhythm. The 2023 edition brought Paul van Dyk, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Ben Nicky, Billy Gillies, Avalon, Liquid Soul, M.I.K.E. Push and Will Atkinson. In 2024, ATB, Ben Gold, Craig Connelly b2b Factor B, Electric Universe presenting Laser Harp, John 00 Fleming and Joint Operations Centre pushed the programme between classic lineage and contemporary intensity. Dreamstate Europe never needed to chase unrelated mainstream styles. Its appeal came from going deeper into trance itself, booking historic aliases, producer sets, live concepts and artists whose differences would be obvious to dedicated listeners even if they all sat underneath the same genre label.

The fifth edition in April 2025 leaned especially strongly into that sense of history. Andrew Rayel, Christina Novelli, Giuseppe Ottaviani presenting OTTAGON, Jeffrey Sutorius revisiting classic Dash Berlin material, Kai Tracid and Sander van Doorn appeared alongside Maddix, Omiki, Will Atkinson and others representing faster contemporary directions. Inside a festival dedicated almost entirely to trance, those details matter. A familiar vocal record can generate one of the night’s largest emotional reactions, while a few hours later harder kicks and techno-influenced production can completely reshape the floor without making the event feel stylistically disconnected.

A sixth edition was prepared for April 11, 2026. ATB, Paul van Dyk, Ben Hemsley, Bryan Kearney, Darren Porter, Avalon, David Forbes, Johan Gielen and several special producer or classic sets had already been announced. Then an unusual problem intervened. PreZero Arena Gliwice needed the date for a major international sporting event that was to take place there for the first time. The venue therefore cancelled Dreamstate Europe and ticket refunds began. Importantly, the public explanation stressed that the decision resulted from scheduling and organisational circumstances rather than a collapse of the festival itself.

That leaves Dreamstate Europe with five physical editions so far: 2019, followed by 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The pandemic explains the missing 2020 and 2021 editions; 2026 belongs in the history as an announced sixth edition that never happened. No 2027 date has yet been confirmed, so the European series currently sits in a paused position rather than operating on a normal annual schedule. Its identity, however, is already unusually clear. Dreamstate Europe proved that a specialist trance event could draw an international audience to a Polish arena without diluting its musical language —one long night built from melody, tension, lasers and the collective anticipation of the next breakdown.
