Lollapalooza Stockholm

Lollapalooza Stockholm is a rock, pop and hip hop festival in Stockholm, Sweden. The first edition ran in late June 2019 at Gärdet park. Perry Farrell, WME, C3 Presents and Live Nation Sweden with its subsidiary Luger produce it. It is the Swedish edition of the gathering Farrell founded as a tour in 1991 and that settled in Grant Park in 2005: several stages in an urban park in central Stockholm.

The announcement came in May 2018. Live Nation and Luger placed Stockholm as the third European city after Berlin and Paris. Gärdet is a historic park in the heart of the capital: you arrive by metro or bus, enter a festival perimeter and walk between stages on grass without pitching a campsite village as the only door. Four stages held rock, pop, hip hop and electronic sets. The format is city Lollapalooza: ticketing, food and a map of overlaps, not a loch folk gathering or an a cappella hall.

The 2019 edition gathered headliners such as Foo Fighters, Lana Del Rey and Travis Scott, with Laleh, Bring Me the Horizon, The 1975, Billie Eilish, Greta Van Fleet, The Hives and Eric Prydz among other verified names. Local write-ups spoke of tens of thousands of attendees and a sunny weekend at Gärdet. In 2020 and 2021 the gathering was cancelled because of the pandemic. In 2022 it returned to the park. In 2023 figures such as Travis Scott, Kygo, Lizzo, Zara Larsson, Mumford and Sons and Lil Nas X featured in write-ups of that edition. Rock, pop and hip hop fit because the same day can move from a guitar set to an electronic or rap block.

The site reads on the plan. You leave a nearby station. You cross toward Gärdet. You pick a stage and change maps. There is no single room closing the day. There are overlaps and queues. Anyone who stays on one stage misses the Swedish and international contrast. Anyone who crosses the park hears the volume shift. Live Nation notes and Swedish press do not sell a village festival: they sell Stockholm, Gärdet and a brand that already existed in the Americas and Europe.

The weekend of 28 to 30 June 2019 turned Gärdet into a park of four stages. Foo Fighters, Lana Del Rey and Travis Scott took the headline slots. On the same grass were Laleh, Bring Me the Horizon, The 1975, Billie Eilish, Greta Van Fleet, The Hives and Eric Prydz. The day joins guitar rock, pop, hip hop and an electronic block, with Swedish names beside the international tours. Local press described sun and tens of thousands of people. The figure that circulates for that first edition is about 56,000. You arrive by metro or bus, cross the perimeter and walk from stage to stage. The clash of times is the practical problem: a Hives set and an Eric Prydz set can overlap, and staying at one stage erases half the bill. Food and drink sit on the park map. June light in Stockholm stretches the afternoon, and the crowd moves with it, from the grass to the next change in volume.

Foo Fighters and Lana Del Rey open it to the big tour. Between them there is a queue, grass and the noise of the next stage. In 2022 the return to the same ground showed that Gärdet could carry the format again after two years without the festival. In 2023 Kygo and Zara Larsson put names the Scandinavian crowd already sang back on the programme, beside Travis Scott and Lil Nas X. The pause announced in 2024 does not erase those editions. A ticket holder arrives at a central park, hears several genres on the same day and walks out to the metro again. That is the festival in practice: grass, overlapping times and a bill that mixes Stockholm with the rest of the map. June keeps the evening long enough to cross the site twice.
