Marvellous Island

Marvellous Island is two days in May on the beach of the Vaires-Torcy leisure island, Route de Lagny, 77200 Torcy, in Seine-et-Marne. The lake sits beside it and the ground of the large stage is sand. Gates open at one in the afternoon and the music runs until five in the morning. From midnight the open air stops. What continues at night is under canvas. The association Marvellous Island runs it, with support from the Île-de-France region. The town of Torcy says so in writing: the town does not organise it. The map the page publishes has the Beach by the water, a Digital dome for techno with lights all round, the Kasbah under another dome for house, and the Pampa in the forest. Camping, as they state it, holds up to 1,500 people. The figure of more than 30,000 is the one the page and a local radio repeat, not a published turnstile. The town, for the date of 23 and 24 May 2026, counted 100 concerts and called it the fourteenth. One listing marks that Saturday as an edition already closed. The rules the council has asked for over several years are to lower the overall volume, cut the open air at midnight, leave the night only under canvas and keep a duty acoustician who measures if there is a complaint.

It began in 2013. The page itself says that at the start there were a few thousand and that the number they give now is past 30,000. The region presents it as techno, house and hip-hop on the island. You arrive by RER and then a shuttle, or by car to nearby car parks. They say the island is about twenty minutes from Paris. Over the weekend of 23 May 2026, from Saturday at nine until Monday at five, the rue de Chèvre by car was for neighbours of the houses around who carried the sticker. The check was so festival cars would not sit in the town streets. In May 2023 the council wrote that noise, messy parking and damage to public and private ground had been going on for several years, and so it filtered the rue de Chèvre over the weekend of 27 and 28 May, from Saturday at nine until Monday at five, letting neighbours through and also bus line 211. The page also sells a backstage pass to three zones, Beach, Digital and Kasbah, behind the people on stage. It also says several dates have shown a full house before the gates opened. Both days open at the same hour, one, and close at the same hour, five. Anyone who changes zone does not change island: sand, dome and forest are on the same ground, by the lake.

The prices the region published for those two dates were 51.45 euros for one day, 131.25 for both days, and 166.95 for both days with camping. Anyone who lives in Torcy or in a town next door can ask for 40 percent off, at the gate on the day, no later than five in the afternoon, with proof of address, and only while space remains in that day's capacity. The reduction is not promised if the day is already full. Camping sits on the two-day pass, not on the one-day price in that list.

The day is a walk. You come in at one on the sand, you move to a dome when the sun drops, and at midnight the beach goes quiet while the tents run on until five. Anyone who sleeps in the campsite does not have to leave the island between Saturday and Sunday. Anyone who comes by car leaves the vehicle in the car park and not on the rue de Chèvre, unless they live there and carry the sticker. Anyone who comes by train gets off the RER and takes the shuttle. If the volume is a problem, the duty number is the association's, not the town hall's. The sticker is for cars, not for people on foot.

It is still the Torcy beach in May. The afternoon is sand and lake. The night, after twelve, is canvas. The council keeps the duty acoustician and the open-air cut. The association is still in charge, the mail and the phone have not changed, and the fourteenth was dated 23 and 24 May 2026, with a hundred concerts announced and the same four zones: beach, two domes and forest.
