Metal Magic Festival

Metal Magic Festival is the three-day metal gathering in Fredericia, at Dronningepladsen, in the Madsby quarter. The practical sheet prints Idrætsvej 7, postcode 7000, and asks for the GPS at Idrætsvej 11. Fredericia st station sits to the south. Parking is in the yellow Cirkuspladsen area or in the blue public lot. There are two stages, one open-air and a tent, food stalls and two bars. A tent fits on the grounds. There are also hotels in town. Martin Jørgensen runs it. In an interview from the fourteenth time he says the crew is one hundred percent volunteer and that nobody on the responsible team has ever been paid. They book what they themselves want to see, with weight on bands that hardly play in Denmark, young names and old ones. They do not work with a contract: a spoken agreement, and if a better offer arrives the band may leave. That is how he tells an old cancellation.

The history page says the first time was in 2008. From 2006 he had been putting on shows at Ungdommens Hus. In 2008 he was offered three bands he would not turn down and the bill was already full, so he stretched the show by a day and it became two days. The following year it was already three days, one indoor stage and one outdoor, and a tent on the grounds. From the third year the crew runs a bus from Copenhagen airport and the ride back at the close. The same page says that is how it still works. Since 2017 the ground is Dronningepladsen, bigger and freer than the youth house. In 2020, in the pandemic, they went to Det Bruunske Pakhus and in 2021 to Eksercerhuset, both in Fredericia. They write that, by not cancelling, they are the festival that has run the longest stretch in Denmark. That is their sentence. An interview from when they still fitted in the old house puts a cap of 500 and counts 400 the year before. That cap belongs to that hall, not to the square now.

The practical sheet still hanging prints 2025 dates, not the later visit. It says that on the grounds you pay only in kroner, not in euros, in cash, card or MobilePay. Your own alcohol is forbidden and to drink you must be 18. Someone under 15 gets in free with an adult who pays. A disabled person may bring an assistant free with the official Ledsagerkort card. No grill and no open fire. Whoever breaks the atmosphere may be expelled. Food and drink on that sheet are paid with tokens, at a shop by the entrance, and those tokens do not work at a later gathering. Showers, on that sheet, are free. The Thursday visit in 2026 tells another till: one ticket of 50 kroner stands for a beer, a drink or a Slowburn special. The tap beer moved from Carlsberg to Albani. The special and the drink come out cheaper than before and the ordinary beer dearer. They read it as costs going up.

The weekend the visits close is 9, 10 and 11 July 2026. The ticket calls it part XVIII and the platform marks it as already held. The gates, on that announcement, opened on Wednesday the 8th at 20:00. The Thursday review speaks of high sun, of more shade tents and of more toilets. Behind the tent they open a rest area the visit calls The Vault. One name on the bill did not come and another took the slot. The reviewer saw a band pour insects over the guitarist. That is his sentence, not a report. The Saturday review opens with a morning bingo and the first music at 12. Inside the tent it was oven-hot. One band was making a debut. The programme printed a trio and five people stood on the stage. The local paper, that same Thursday afternoon, at 15:15, interviews Martin with the grounds already open. A council majority has approved renting the square to FC Fredericia. He is talking with the municipality. The paper prints an edition number that does not match the XVIII on the ticket. The two figures stay as they are.

If every summer since 2008 had counted, 2026 would not be the eighteenth. These sheets do not say which summer is missing. The history page speaks of growing and of cold Danish beer at a good price. The practical sheet says the bar and the ticket are the main income, that public support is falling and that without the bar the gathering does not hold. That is their notice, not an account. The airport bus is still written as part of how it works. The parking and the camp too.

Sleep is in a tent on the grounds or in a hotel in town. The official address is kept. The weekend with a closed visit is the one in July 2026, at Dronningepladsen. What the paper says about a later square is a conversation with the municipality, not a closed door.
