Music On Festival

Music On Festival is the techno and house weekend that Loveland puts on in Amsterdam. The organization's statement says Loveland has spent more than thirty years on parties in the city and that Music On joins that family in 2017. Every edition, according to that text, sold out months ahead, and none had had an incident. Partyflock sets the first day: Saturday 6 May 2017, on the green at Meerpark, from 11:00 to 23:00, two stages, nine names, 18 and over. The bill of that time puts Marco Carola from 20:00 to 23:00 on the main stage, and says it was his only show that summer in the Netherlands. The afterparty was announced at Paradiso.

The visit with tracks is Grahame Farmer's, in Data Transmission, on 29 May 2019, about 11 and 12 May at Havenpark. It is not the Meerpark of 2017. He arrived after previews in London and in New York. One tent is a half-covered greenhouse, with plants hanging and sun. The crowd came from all over Europe, and there was a very loyal Italian group in the big room, for Marco Carola. On Saturday, Apollonia, the French trio, held a deep house. Jamie Jones threaded basslines. The Martinez Brothers cut it with raw drums. The set Farmer puts in front is Carola's: looped, stripped techno, in a dome that was dark and full of lasers. Agartha dropped, by Blackchildita, a track still unreleased. And Still Doesn't Care, by the Dutchman Luuk van Dijk, which the text calls the start of the party.

On Sunday Farmer arrives tired and the weather lifts the mood. In the greenhouse, Marco Faraone worked percussion, effects and loops, and the crowd spilled over. Steve Lawler left big drums. Secret Cinema and Egbert did a back to back. The light fell on the floor. The text gives no further titles. Farmer closes by calling it a two-day techno. The Saturday house, Apollonia's, stays in the same report.

Festival Fans, Bram Vermeulen, on 10 May 2026, places the recent years at Meerpark, with room for 20,000 people over two days. On Saturday 9 May 2026 the festival did not open. Loveland had changed the tent from the one on the permit, told the city on 17 March, and on the 25th handed in papers the same day they were asked for. On Wednesday the 6th there was a meeting with the Omgevingsdienst. On Friday the 8th the inspection said the extra measures were in place and that it could go ahead. At 4:00 a.m. on Saturday the mayor asked for more advice before 8:00. At 8:29 the events office gave a positive advisory. At 9:25 they revoked the permit. The Wednesday meeting had been constructive. Every extra measure asked for in that room was met, and nothing there said the weekend was at risk. Through the night the crew sent a revised management plan before midnight. The favourable note at 8:29 rested in part on the Environmental Agency saying that, with those measures and the weather forecast, the risk looked manageable. Less than an hour later the permit fell on a negative note from that same agency. The statement prints both. The court did not look at whether that process had been careful. Loveland says it respects the ruling and does not accept that a permit should end this way. Had anyone said in March, or even a few days before the gates, that this tent was unwanted, they write that another structure was still possible. Loveland filed an emergency injunction. The court said the mayor may decide on public safety and could rely on a negative advisory from the agency. The court did not measure whether the tent was safe. Vermeulen writes that the ruling was due around 15:30 and that it did not help. He speaks of 20,000 disappointed people and of a blow to the books. Loveland also puts on 909 and Loveland Festival.

The statement leaves the 2026 passes valid for the following edition in Amsterdam, or a refund. The tent in dispute, the text says, is a rental used at the parties for Amsterdam's 750 years and at a King's Day festival in The Hague on 27 April 2026. The site's front page announces another weekend. That year is not copied here. What did not happen is the opening on 9 May.

What stays walked with a track is Havenpark, on 11 and 12 May 2019: Agartha in Carola's dome and Still Doesn't Care by Luuk van Dijk, with Apollonia, Faraone and the back to back of Secret Cinema and Egbert. What stays closed without music is Meerpark on 9 May 2026, at 9:25.
