Outside Lands

Outside Lands is the three-day festival in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Another Planet Entertainment produces it. The company's page says it has existed since 2008 and calls it the jewel of the city. Gregg Perloff and Sherry Wasserman built Another Planet in 2003, after leaving Bill Graham Presents. Billboard adds Steve Welkom and dates the start to 18 July 2003. The house's first concert was Bruce Springsteen at Pac Bell Park on 16 August that year. Billboard puts the merger with Allen Scott and Mystery Machine in November 2003. The Mercury News puts it in 2004. The two dates stay together.

The first visit was 22–24 August 2008, with Recreation and Park. The 24 March announcement names Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Jack Johnson. That bill is not a night walked here. Perloff told the Mercury News he believed it would be the largest multiday ticketed event in San Francisco's history, with nearly 70 bands and as many as 180,000 tickets. That is his projection from then, not a current capacity. Starr Hill and Superfly came in as partners. Wasserman compared the scale to the US Festival. An arborist marked where stages could go so the roots would not be harmed.

The Friday that counts is 7 August 2026, eighteen years after that first one. Nick Gumas, at Grateful Web, publishes it on 1 September. The big stage is called Lands End. The Story So Far, from Walnut Creek, debut on the Sutro stage and open with The Glass, from 2013. Parker Cannon calls for a pit. People pass overhead from the back of Lindley Meadow. Turnstile, from Baltimore, open with Never Enough, and Brendan Yates goes into the crowd for Endless. On the screen appear Lucy Dacus and, written that way in the note, Juline Baker, of boygenius. Faouzia opens Lands End with no closed title. The SF Standard says the sun never came out all day. Gumas writes that the sun was going down when Turnstile came on. The two lights stay together.

Charli xcx closes Friday at Lands End and fills the Polo Field. The Chronicle says the set starts just after 8:40 p.m., in black and white, with Rock Music, from the album Music, Fashion, Film. The Standard writes the title without commas, Music Fashion Film, and says the album was two weeks old. mxdwn, on 8 August, describes a pyramid and an enormous speaker. She wears a moto-jacket dress from GapStudio, by Zac Posen, a nod to the city's brand. Before Apple she says, according to the Standard, here is a classic. The Standard also names Wink Wink, Card Declined, I Don't Wanna Know, and Girl, So Confusing. I Don't Wanna Know is not on the other two lists. Those lists stay together.

The Chronicle continues with Club Classics, 365, and Von Dutch, and closes with No One Lasts Forever, after the Polo Field had already moved to the Brat songs. Gumas adds Guess, Track 10, and SS26, and says a monologue by David Cronenberg plays at the end, with the line that they are dead, they are gone, no one lasts forever. She stands still. setlist.fm, as a user list, puts the start at 8:40 p.m., the end at 10:00, the doors at 11:00 a.m., an Apple soundcheck, and a barricade walk on Von Dutch. That user list also puts in Yeah, House, Dying for You, 360, Sympathy is a knife, Camera, party 4 u, Playboy Bunny, and 2007. mxdwn writes the Lorde remix on Girl, So Confusing, the Shygirl remix on 365, and the Billie Eilish remix on Guess.

The Standard compares the day's pull with Chappell Roan's in 2024, without walking that night. The Mercury News reports that Another Planet had spent about three years in meetings with every city department, transportation and safety included, and that a share of every ticket went to the park. mxdwn calls the weekend sold out and says the fog rolled in whether the crowd wanted it or not. The Standard describes the Polo Field in fishnets, electric-green hair, and neon nails, and even the uniforms of the people cleaning the restrooms carried safety green. Gumas speaks of hundreds of thousands of people who came from elsewhere. That figure stays beside the 2008 projection of 180,000, without treating them as the same count. The homepage, read on 28 September 2026, only loaded a form for updates. It did not print a later date. No mail appears in what loaded. The counts stay together: the first one on 22–24 August 2008, the partners from then, and Friday 7 August 2026 walked at Lands End, the Sutro, Lindley Meadow, and the Polo Field.
