About the festival

Cosquín Rock España was created as the European bridge of a festival brand deeply connected with Argentine musical history. Its purpose was not to reproduce the enormous gathering held in the Córdoba hills exactly, but to establish a space where Spanish and Latin American artists could meet before an audience sharing language, references and songs across both sides of the Atlantic. Since its first completed edition in 2021, the festival has changed city, format and scale, demonstrating an unusual ability to reshape its identity without entirely abandoning the rock culture from which it emerged.

Earlier attempts to bring Cosquín Rock to Spain were affected by postponements and pandemic-related restrictions. The first completed edition eventually took place on 17 and 18 September 2021 at Marenostrum Fuengirola, an open-air venue beside the Mediterranean and visually dominated by Sohail Castle. Robe and Leiva led those two nights, joined by Los Zigarros, Ciro y Los Persas, Ciclonautas and Aurora & The Betrayers. The programme clearly expressed the project’s initial ambition: to connect different generations of Spanish and Argentine ROCK in a shared coastal setting.

Cosquín Rock España returned to Fuengirola on 17 June 2023 with a far more concentrated and forceful programme. Marea represented one of the most popular expressions of Spanish urban rock, while La Renga and Skay y Los Fakires brought two essential histories from Argentine rock culture to the Costa del Sol. Bocanada completed a day shaped by guitars, familiar lyrics and unusually loyal audiences. The edition strengthened the festival’s position as a meeting point for a transatlantic community built through decades of touring, records and musical exchange.

A decisive change came in 2024, when the festival left the Mediterranean coast and moved to Pingüinos Arena in Valladolid. The new home altered not only its landscape but also the range of its programme. Hombres G, Arde Bogotá, Gipsy Kings, Ciro y Los Persas, Crystal Fighters, Arizona Baby, Nafta and Cuatro Pesos de Propina appeared alongside Steve Aoki, whose closing performance shifted the night towards ELECTRONIC music. Three stages, family activities under the Mundito Rock concept and regional food and wine experiences turned the event into a broader cultural gathering.

The 2025 edition confirmed that Valladolid was more than a temporary stop. Sebastián Yatra, The Kooks, Love of Lesbian, Duncan Dhu, YSY A, León Gieco, Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, Silvestre y La Naranja, La Garfield, Agarrate Catalina, Marlena and Barry B formed a programme crossing POP, indie, hip-hop, Latin American songwriting and rock. That combination could appear distant from the most orthodox Cosquín traditions, yet it showed that the Spanish edition was seeking an audience and identity of its own rather than relying exclusively on Argentine nostalgia.

The surrounding Castilian context also became increasingly important. Ribera del Duero wines, gastronomic experiences and collaborations with Valladolid restaurants used music as the centre of an encounter connected with the region. This dimension was more than decorative: it distinguished the Spanish edition from conventional urban festivals and encouraged visitors to approach it as a wider cultural experience. Artists from Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Colombia and the United Kingdom reinforced its open international character and the idea of Valladolid as a meeting point rather than a single-scene destination.

In 2026, Cosquín Rock España expanded to three days, running from 28 to 30 August. Friday focused on international rock with Kaiser Chiefs, M-Clan, Puño Dragón, Whisky Caravan, Ilan Amores and a DJ set by Metronomy’s Olugbenga. Saturday turned Pingüinos Arena into a major dance floor with Paul Kalkbrenner, Claptone, Dmasso, Imbermind, Lola Bozzano, Li|Lu and Kinderlomas. Sunday closed on a more alternative scale through Ultraligera, Comandante Twin, Oslo Ovnies and Dani del Lío, creating a different rhythm for each section of the weekend.

That day-by-day structure summarises the festival’s current identity. It no longer limits itself to presenting Ibero-American rock, but designs separate experiences around live bands, electronic music and emerging alternative scenes. Cosquín Rock España remains active following its 2026 edition, although another date has not yet been publicly announced. Its journey from the Mediterranean to Castilla y León reflects a continuing search for scale and personality, confirming that its greatest value lies in connecting generations, countries and markedly different ways of experiencing live music.
