About the festival

Dekmantel Selectors makes more sense once you stop thinking of an electronic festival as a race for big names. This is not about chasing the most famous DJ of the summer or running from stage to stage in search of the drop everyone will film on their phone. Selectors works by another logic: the logic of the DJ who knows how to read an afternoon, a dance floor, a bay, a temperature, an exact hour. It is a festival for people who love to dance, yes, but also for people who love hearing someone build a story with records.

It was born as an intimate extension of the Dekmantel universe, a Dutch brand already respected for its Amsterdam festival, labels, podcasts, parties and broad-minded relationship with electronic music. But Selectors is not simply “Dekmantel in Croatia.” It is something else. The name says it clearly: the center here is not the celebrity status of the artist, but the selection. The ability to bring together pieces that may not have been meant to coexist and make them feel inevitable on a dance floor by the Adriatic.

The Garden Resort in Tisno is essential to that personality. It is not a generic site or a dark warehouse moved into summer. It is a coastal space on the Dalmatian shore, with clear water, trees, strong sun, open nights and the feeling that the music is only a few steps from the sea. During the day, the festival moves between stages by the water, resting areas, conversations, swims, casual encounters and boat parties that turn the landscape into part of the set. At night, the energy shifts toward Barbarella’s Discotheque, an open-air club where the idea of dancing until sunrise becomes literal.

The real experience of attending is less explosive and more immersive. You might begin the day with deep house, strange disco, dub, electro, rare groove or Balearic sounds while your body is still in beach mode. Later, the atmosphere can turn toward techno, bass, breaks, EBM, acid, UK sounds, Latin rhythms, global percussion or selections that refuse easy categories. At Selectors, the point is not always recognizing the track. Often the point is not recognizing it, looking up and thinking: what is this, and why does it work so well here?

That is one of its main differences from other electronic festivals. Selectors does not guide you with an obvious narrative. It trusts that the audience is curious. Its programme tends to bring together DJs with deep musical culture, people who can move between eras, scenes, speeds and moods. One set can be elegant and sunny, another weird and dirty, another emotional, another alien, another purely physical. The festival does not try to make everything sound the same; it tries to make everything feel intentional.

The crowd is also part of the appeal. Dekmantel Selectors attracts ravers, DJs, collectors, writers, producers, house and techno fans, seekers of oddities and people who have learned to trust curation more than poster size. This is not a festival for bragging that you saw the most expensive artist of the year. It is more likely a place where you end up talking to someone about an Italian B-side, a Chicago label, a Brazilian electro record or a bizarre transition that suddenly became the moment of the afternoon.

What makes Dekmantel Selectors different is its human scale. The limited capacity, Tisno, the sea, the boats, Barbarella’s and the focus on DJs rather than mass spectacle make it feel like a temporary community more than a festival machine. It is an event for people who want to dance without losing their ears, discover without anxiety and remember that, in electronic music, sometimes the real luxury is not the biggest production, but being in the right place while someone plays the right record.
