Love Supreme Jazz Festival

Love Supreme Jazz Festival is a jazz, soul and funk festival that began from 5 to 7 July 2013 at Glynde Place, an Elizabethan house in East Sussex, two miles east of Lewes and seven from Brighton’s Amex. Ciro Romano built it from Neapolitan Music, with Jazz FM and Ingenious Media Entertainment VCT 1 and 2. Serious, producer of the London Jazz Festival, came in as programme consultant. Music Week posted it on 28 September 2012. The Independent, on 21 November 2012, dated the weekend and named Branford Marsalis, Jools Holland and Soweto Kinch. A camping weekend was £110; without a tent, £100; a day, £50. Juniors paid £60 or £50. Under-fives went free. A camper pass was £50 and parking £10.

London Jazz News, on 21 November and 12 December 2012, listed Bryan Ferry on Saturday with The Jazz Age, Marcus Miller, the Branford Marsalis Quartet, the Neil Cowley Trio, Phantom Limb, Zara McFarlane, Robert Glasper Experiment, Andreya Triana and Snarky Puppy. Jazzwise added Gregory Porter, Courtney Pine and Portico Quartet. There were more than forty acts and one ticket for four stages: Main Stage, a floored and seated jazz Big Top, Discovery for new names and a dance tent. Funky Sensation took Friday. White Mink V Peppermint Candy took Saturday. eFestivals put daily capacity at fifteen thousand. Romano told Neapolitan he wanted the ethos of North Sea Jazz and Montreux with the camping culture of Latitude or Green Man.

Glynde Place, BN8 6SX, sits in the South Downs. The village of Glynde lends the parish. The grounds hold standard camping, glamping and quiet zones. There is food from several countries and a family programme. The Huffington Post called it the best new festival in the UK. The Guardian called it the jazz world’s Glastonbury. Neapolitan Limited dates from 2000. Romano studied law, worked at Universal Music and left in 2000. Neapolitan Live opened in 2011. The same house also runs one-day bills at London’s Roundhouse under the same brand. Barney Dufton appears as programming director in later reports.

The eighth edition, set for 3 to 5 July 2020, was postponed on 15 April because of covid. The statement moved the weekend to 2–4 July 2021 and rolled tickets. TLC, The Isley Brothers, Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes, Sister Sledge, Candi Staton, The Brand New Heavies, Nubya Garcia, Kokoroko, Cory Wong and MF Robots were named for that shift. On 6 and 7 May 2021 Brighton and Hove News and UK Jazz News wrote that 2021 would not run either. The team cited travel limits. The return was dated 1 to 3 July 2022. Jazzwise, closing 2025, dated 4–6 July at Glynde Place and close to fifty thousand people. Jacob Collier closed Saturday. Maxwell closed Sunday, a first UK visit in nine years. The Roots, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, En Vogue, Thee Sacred Souls, Branford Marsalis Quartet, Stanley Clarke, Arooj Aftab, War, Sampa The Great and Chucho Valdés Royal Quartet sat on the bill. eFestivals listed adult general camping at £184.80 and a weekend without a tent at £169.40. Smokey Robinson, Durand Jones & The Indications, Jamila Woods, Lakecia Benjamin, Ravyn Lenae and corto.alto also played. Daily capacity on that listing stayed at fifteen thousand.

From 3 to 5 July 2026 the festival already took place. It was the first year with a Main Stage on all three days. Ezra Collective closed Friday and curated the day as Temple Of Joy, ten years after their Glynde debut. Loyle Carner closed Saturday. De La Soul closed Sunday with their only full-band UK date that year. The Argus and Brighton and Hove News listed The Temptations and The Four Tops, Sister Sledge, Gabrielle, Lemar, Free Nationals, Samara Joy, esperanza spalding, Courtney Pine, Kokoroko and Moses Boyd. Music-News put attendance above sixty thousand. Yotam Ottolenghi ran a restaurant on site. Ancient + Brave opened the Brave Tent. Little Supremos covered children. Horse Meat Disco and Colleen Cosmo Murphy DJed on Friday. The site lovesupremefestival.com is kept. Jazz, soul and funk measured the ear. Glynde Place pins the ground. East Sussex pins the map. eFestivals dated 4 to 6 July 2014 as the second year at the same house. Anita Baker, Sergio Mendes and Charles Lloyd Kindred Spirits were on the postponed 2020 poster. Maze played the 2026 Main Stage. NYJO presented Miles Davis 100. The New Generation Jazz stage named ORBIT and Tomorrow’s Warriors Junior Band. Anderson .Paak appeared as DJ Pee .Wee on the Friday late bill. Mr Bongo, re:sonate and Tru Thoughts ran night takeovers.
